Published:

Director of SimulaMet, Prof. Olav Lysne, was named Simula Researcher of the Decade at Simula’s 20th-anniversary celebration. The award was given in recognition of his fundamental contributions to the development of Simula.

Each year, Prof. Aslak Tveito (CEO of Simula) awards the Simula Researcher of the Year. Every 10 years, Prof. Tveito awards the Simula Researcher of the Decade to someone who has gone far and beyond in their contributions to both their research field and to Simula over the last decade.

“The researcher of this decade has been essential in the development of Simula through this period. He is the chairman of the board of Simula@UiB, he is the leader of SimulaMet – our blooming collaboration with OsloMet, he has established a comprehensive collaboration with the Technical University of Berlin, and he is establishing a similar collaboration with the Norwegian Defense University College. He was also in charge of developing the first version of Smittestopp. It was developed in five weeks and downloaded by 1.3 million users. For 15 years he has been in charge of evaluating the Norwegian infrastructure supporting mobile communication and I hope you have all noticed that is pretty good. Professor Olav Lysne is the researcher of decade at Simula”, said Prof. Tveito when giving out the award to Prof. Lysne.

Congratulations to Prof. Lysne on this well-deserved recognition of his important and consistent contributions!
