SURE-AI: Centre for Sustainable, Risk-Averse and Ethical AI

SURE-AI: Centre for Sustainable, Risk-Averse and Ethical AI

Duration
2025 – 2030

SURE-AI is a national research centre within artificial intelligence, aiming to make AI technologies more sustainable, risk-averse and ethical.

Learn more on the centre website.

Researchers in this centre build the mathematics behind trustworthy AI—so safety, fairness, and sustainability are not just goals, but proven properties.

They advance core theory in probability, statistics, optimization, and control to model uncertainty and risk, then turn that theory into algorithms with guarantees on accuracy, robustness, and resource use.

Partnering with industry and the public sector, SURE-AI convert these foundations into open tools and benchmarks, tested in real-world applications, and high-quality training that set the standard for responsible AI in practice.

Key objectives

SURE-AI's mission is to pioneer a new generation of artificial intelligence that is fundamentally more reliable, efficient, and responsible.

The centre works on creating methods that enable AI to accurately analyse complex and varied data in critical fields like energy and climate science, thereby making data-driven research more reproducible and reliable. They are also creating adaptive AI systems that can learn from changing or limited data, making them effective in dynamic environments such as financial markets and environmental monitoring.

The research is concentrated in ten dedicated work packages bringing together a diverse team of experts from academia and industry.
